Black Hair As Still Life

Beauty, in an art sense, is something many consider to be subjective, and yet it is everything around us. Maybe it is my blissfully positive way of seeing the world but, I think there is some kind of beauty in everything. I especially think about the beauty of black hair, and yes even the often stressful process that goes into it. I am obsessed with the varying curl patterns, kinky textures, personal styles, and vibrant colors. Personally, I would compare the beauty of black hair to a bouquet of flowers resting in an elegant clay vase. I wanted to create a piece that displayed my admiration. Inspired by still paintings, I wanted to showcase black hair differently. I imagined hair being as beautiful as a flower and wanted to recreate hair in shapes and forms that resembled a vase and flowers.
